Friday Night Pre-Conference Classes –Winema Place (Building # 48)
AHA CPR / First-Aid Certification – Bekkyi Howard
(5:00pm – 10:00pm)
Participants will receive certification in American Heart Association CPR and first-aid. Please note that though necessary for program compliance, these hours will not count toward instructor continuing education.
Model Roadways – Sharon Rothacker
(6:00pm – 9:00pm)
Kinesthetically challenging, the model roadway kit includes cars, roadways, enhancements for learning, and both the instructor's guide and the student's task sheets. A sure way to be able to track the ongoing development of critical thinking patterns as they relate to driving!
Traction For Action – Bill Warner
(6:00pm – 9:00pm)
Visually based, the lesson enhancements provided by this kit allow for greater transfer of learning of important concepts like; vehicle balance, vehicle dynamics, forces at work, and natural laws as they apply to the driving task. A "must have" for the classroom teacher that wishes to engage their students in lifelong principles for safe driving!
Skid Monster Orientation and Scheduling – Liz Taylor
(6:00pm – 8:00pm)
On Friday night will be a short orientation to the Skid Monster apparatus, and the training principles it involves. We will review and discuss the value of various vision, motion and steering skills necessary for Risk Prevention Driving and exactly how the Skid Monster becomes the "trainer". Note; To participate in the Skid Monster training, you are required to bring a recent copy of your certified court print, verifying that you meet the requirements to be a certified Driver Ed instructor in Oregon. You can get a copy from your employer or purchase a new copy from DMV. If you do not bring your court print with you, you will not be able to drive the Skid Monster vehicle. On Saturday you will put your risk prevention habits to the test as you "drive" the Monster. You will have the opportunity to experience the various prevention, detection and correction stages of traction loss and will effectively compare the ease of prevention with the complexities of correction.
Computer Technology; Power Point Presentations – Andrew Crites (Note: Bring your laptop!)
(6:00pm – 9:00pm)
Work on your power point presentation skills! Learn to imbed videos, input sound effects, add animation and pictures. Use power point shortcuts to get the job done in a creative and timely manner!
Saturday Keynote Speaker - Leigh Anne Jasheway-Bryant, M.P.H. (master of public health/mistress of public humor) is an award-winning humorous author, humorous and motivational keynote speaker, humor and health columnist, and stand-up comedienne living in Eugene, Oregon.

Note: The following three parking lot activities will be offered each breakout session throughout the day:
Skid Monster - Liz Taylor
A reminder; To participate in the Skid Monster training, you are required to attend the Friday night pre-conference for scheduling and orientation. Accelerometer-Andrew Crites
Learn how quick your reaction time is under normal circumstances and then see what happens when you add in different distractions. There will be 3 participants per session. Participants will need to walk or drive over to the accelerometer green parking lot.
Hand-Operated Vehicle- Chris Bell
Chris Bell from wheelventure@gmail.com will install hand-controls in a vehicle for instructors to practice and learn some safety tips. Operating the hand controls with Chris at your side will help to instill confidence and you will learn how to avoid common mistakes. Participants may drive the van or ride along and observe. What an opportunity to experience a hand-controlled vehicle in an open parking lot! There will be four driving participants per session. The hand-controlled vehicle will be in the parking lot between building # 50, the general session gym, and building # 48, the Winema Place breakout rooms.

"Your Humor Driver's Test: Putting Your Humor Skills to the Test" - Leigh Anne Jasheway-Bryant

She's back…! Leigh Anne will use her unique presentation style to demonstrate how to use humor to educate your students. This will be an interactive session focusing on education and communication.
DE Coordinator Panel – Program Challenges Location – WP #102
Is the student drive schedule making you tear your hair out? Do you need low or no-cost business cards and signs? Or, are you looking for ways to better manage a large program that teaches in more than one location? If you say "yes" to any one of these questions, and others, you will benefit from this workshop! This panel of experts is willing to share their secrets!
CDL Operator/Trainers – Leigh Eingle and Gene Rushing Location – WP #201
Come hear words of wisdom from CDL trainers with combined backgrounds of nearly 60 years of experience! Find out what you need to share with your students from a professional driver's perspective regarding "no zones" and other special large vehicle considerations.
Work Zone – Scott McCanna and Anne Holder Location – WP #202A
Scott McCanna, ODOT Traffic Control Engineer will provide details on the elements of a work zone, how a work zone is developed, background on engineering decisions, safety features and devices.
Anne Holder, ODOT Work Zone Safety Program Manager will provide National and Oregon work zone statistics, explain Oregon's public information and education approach to work zone safety along with current enforcement efforts and identify ways EMS plays a part of work zone safety.
Team Oregon Motorcycle – Bob Reichenberg Location – WP #202B
Team Oregon is a nationally recognized leader in motorcycle rider safety and skills training. It was developed as a partnership with ODOT and OSU. Bob Reichenberg is Communications Manager for TEAM OREGON. He coordinates public awareness and education programs, and manages the TEAM OREGON website. Bob will discuss riding and motorcycle safety.
Oregon State Police Trooper - Senior Officer Douglas Brown Location – WP #210
Senior Officer Douglas Brown will discuss commonly misunderstood rules and regulations. He will also give the perspective of a patrol officer observing the skills and attitudes of today's drivers. Officer Brown has an incredibly varied background, having years of experience as a trial attorney, fire-fighter, paramedic and OSP trooper.

Oregon State Police Drug Recognition Evaluator - Program State Coordinator - Sgt. Michael Iwai
Location – General Session Gym
The Oregon Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program is managed and coordinated by the Oregon State Police and has been since the inception of the program in 1995. The DEC Program trains police officers to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs other than, or in addition to, alcohol. Sergeant Michael Iwai is Oregon's DEC Program State Coordinator. Oregon currently has 169 certified Drug Recognition Experts. The mission of the Oregon DEC Program is to reduce the number of drug and alcohol-related crashes and incidents by improving law enforcement detection skills in identifying persons under the influence of drugs, alcohol, and other psychoactive substances. Sergeant Iwai will be clarifying information on DUI's and answering questions from the audience.
DE Coordinator Panel – Recordkeeping Location – WP #102
Who doesn't struggle with the "dark side" of the job: documentation! There is an easier way! This panel of experts will share tips that have saved their programs time and frustration. Tracking home guided practice, developing an electronic recordkeeping system, and keeping instructor qualifications current are just a few of the topics that will be discussed.
Parking Lot Maneuvers / Group Share - Facilitator: Josh Szurzsewski Location – WP #201 Have you ever wondered how other instructors teach certain maneuvers? Well wonder no more! This session will give instructors the opportunity to share ideas and techniques to help get the point across. With the use of whiteboards and model cars and cones, you can experience a mini parking lot right in the classroom!

Trauma Nurses Talk Tough (TNTT) was developed in 1986 by three trauma nurses who wanted to put an end to the carnage they saw every day as a result of unnecessary injuries and deaths. Today, the wide-reaching impact of these programs has helped save countless lives through community education and advocacy.
Drunk Driving Goggle Activities Location – WP #102
This is your chance to don the goggles and test your skills in the various activities. Feel free to share your activities and ideas with the other participants as well! Don't forget to bring your goggles! If you have extra, please label them and bring them along!

Lorry has 30 years of experience with the DMV. She will discuss the training of DMV examiners, what students should expect on a DMV drive test and the most common teen driver errors when taking the drive test.
Commentary Driving – Sharon Rothacker Location –WP #202B
Sharon will discuss when and how to use commentary driving to help diagnose student perception of the driving environment. You will have the opportunity to practice your new commentary skills!

"The Active Classroom" / Special Situations - Lois Lents and Jerry Tucker
Location – WP #210
These sessions will cover PEP activities and more. You will have the opportunity to participate in the PEP activities, share your own methods for current PEP activities and/or share special activities you have developed. Also discussed, will be special driving situations that are important for the students to know, such as "follow the leader to the destination" procedures. Is the leader or the followers in charge of the group traveling as a unit?
